QUOTE/LYRIC ILLUSTRATION PROJECT
Find a quote or lyric you'd like to illustrate. You'll develop this project throughout this week and into next week.
Select a quote or lyric that resonates with you
Write down the full text and note the source (author, song, etc.)
Brainstorm visual concepts that connect to the meaning
Sketch multiple composition ideas
Develop your strongest concept with refined lettering and illustration
Incorporate both typography and imagery seamlessly
Create a final polished version
"Smokin' Darts and Breakin' Hearts"
"Do You Realize? We're Floating in Space"
"Don't Be Nice to ICE"
"Give Yourself Some Wiggle Room"
Illustrative Typography
Type surrounds everything we do—it shapes how we read, write, travel, play, and work. This week, you'll research fonts and typography to understand their impact on perception and communication.
Create several designs where type comes to life visually. Choose single words and illustrate them so the letterforms and imagery embody the word's meaning—making the text become its definition.
Create one page of visual notes (sketchnotes) exploring how type changes the way we think about things.
I've provided some videos and materials below to guide your research.
QUOTE/LYRIC ILLUSTRATION PROJECT (Continued)
Continue refining your lettering poster from Week 7A. Remember: prioritize the lettering design over imagery.
This week, you'll create a mandala as a meditative exploration of pattern and repetition. Focus on the rhythmic, contemplative process of building intricate designs.

This project challenges you to create a mid-century travel poster for a national park, exploring how design and branding inspire people to engage with nature. Your final 8" × 10" poster (300 DPI, Procreate) should feature a limited color palette, layered composition, and punchy typography, preceded by 5 pencil sketch thumbnails—select your park early, as each can only be chosen once.
