1. Create, edit, and composite vector-based media in Adobe Illustrator

2. Optimize and export files for web/screen, print, and mobile media

Required Materials

Software

Adobe Illustrator CC (2026 or earlier versions accepted) included in your acceptance to VADA along with all Creative Cloud Apps. 

Textbook

Per SBHS/SBUSD we don't have a textbook that is required for this class

Class Structure

Weekly modules based on projects assigned

• Using the class website thegoodbarr.com weekly breakdown of assignments

• Each assignment should be submitted  as .ai file, a .png file, or a .pdf file as stated on Canvas

Grading

Projects (graded on originality, design, and technique)

• Assignments: 1-10 pts each

• No Participation grade

• No test grade

• All grades start at 50% and can only go up from there

• All grades will be populated with 50% if not turned in by the deadline (late)

• When work is submitted it will be graded down for being in the wrong format (.ai, .png, .pdf depending on the assignment)

• Late submission deduction: .5 % per Day, lowest possible grade 55% if turned in late

• If work is never submitted you cannot get higher than 50%

• Grades will be posted as soon as they are graded unless they are late. Late work is graded at the discretion of the teacher

✓ Adobe Setup: Login to Creative Cloud on both computer and iPad
✓ File Format: Always submit assignments as .ai or whichever format we are working with that week so instructor can view all layers and work
