Step 1: Create a New Canvas
Open Procreate
Tap Create a new canvas
Set your canvas size to 1000 x 1000 pixels (square canvases work best for patterns)
Set the color profile to RGB and tap Create
Step 2: Set Up Your Layers
Open the Layers panel (swipe left with two fingers or tap the Layers icon)
You'll be working with multiple layers—think of them like transparent sheets stacked on top of each other
Name your first layer "Pattern Design"
Option A: Geometric Pattern (Easiest)
Create basic shapes (circles, squares, triangles)
Arrange them in a grid
Use the symmetry tool to help with consistency
Option B: Nature-Inspired Pattern (Medium)
Draw leaves, flowers, or branches
Repeat and rotate elements

Combine shapes, lines, and textures

Complete Pattern Design Walkthrough
This is what makes your pattern truly repeating:
Draw your design in the center of your canvas
Duplicate your layer (important for the next step)
Use the Selection Tool to select half of your design
Cut and paste each half to opposite sides
Fill in gaps with new design elements
Repeat this process for top and bottom sections
Test it: Use the Canvas menu → Flip Horizontally/Vertically to check for seams
Pro Tip: Use the Clone tool to blend edges seamlessly!
Before you submit, make sure you have:
☐ Created a 1000 x 1000 px canvas
☐ Designed a clear, recognizable pattern
☐ Used at least 2-3 layers effectively
☐ Tested your pattern for seamless tiling (no obvious seams)
☐ Used color intentionally (at least 3 colors)
☐ Exported your pattern as a PNG

A screenshot showing your pattern tiled 4x4 (to prove it's seamless)
Create a pattern using only one color + white
Design a pattern that includes text or letters
Make a seasonal pattern (winter, spring, summer, fall)
Create a pattern inspired by a specific culture or art movement
